The "Cable Sweater"

I knit a lot. There are so many projects... always many on the needles. There is one that seems to be taking so much of energy. It is the Cable Sweater by Vivian Huxbro.

Here is where I am so far. I am doing the part that is pink, where her elbow is bent on her hip.

Button Car

I can't seem to get away from the buttons!
Today on my way in to work I saw this button car. I stopped to look, and the closer I looked the more fascinating it became. Is this a glue gun affair? Or does it take more industrial equipment?

I was thinking there could never be enough buttons in the world. But I think this collection would be big enough for me. Good to know where the line is drawn!

Artifact

This is the glue gun that I have had since time began. The metal stand that used to hold it up is gone, so I have it proped up in a box. (safety? I had to make do, and I thought it was better up off the surface, rather than lying on it's side) Of course a glue gun is hot, but this one, because it is one of the first models ever created oh so HOT. It is not a "low melt" or even a "two tempurature" melt. It is just 'burn-the-prints-off-your-fingers' melt. The black on the tip is build-up from the years of heating and cooling. ... Christmas is coming. And I think there is a new gun with a stand in my future.

Most recently, the gun was fired up to make these. Here we are in the holidays... buying, wrapping, knitting, sewing... and then, in the free time, I am tying string into loose double knots. "We're tying the knot" There is a LOT going on!

The Bag

Here is the finished product. I put stablizer in the bottom to hold the shape a little bit. I'm pleased with it. I like the contrast in the handle and the lining. Where do they put the straps on a 'normal' bag? I'll keep working on that.

Sewing

I'm working on a few last gifts.
I have a whole new found respect for the pattern makers of the world.
A well made bag is a thing of beauty. And it is really an art form to get all the seems tucked in and hidden. It is a feat to take the picture in your mind, and then turn the fabric into a reflection of that object.

mid century christmas

The man is a complex mix of things. He is more surprising than bacon in a dessert.
He is an Englishman with a passion for American muscle cars. He is a designer, who loves the styling of chrome, mexican pressed tin, day of the dead diaramas, and mid century modern furniture. He has collections to numerous to mention. But one of the most beautful things that is stored in it's original box is a 7 foot silver tinsle Christmas tree. The branches bloom thier sparkles out of their individual paper sleeves.
Here it is all set up, just awaiting the vintage glass blown ornaments.

Wrapping

The buttons have been out, singing to me.

These need to find thier way into boxes.

And then they need to form a little parade, and march themselves to the post office.

Brocolli Romanesco

I went out for food. It was shocking to be off the couch. A trip to the non-chain organic market was in order. There have been too many 'deliveries' of pizza and curry in the last few days.
I found lots of great stuff, but topping the list was this amazing thing.

It reminds me of the creatures you see scuba diving.
These super minds of math and science describe it using "Pascal's Triangle of binomial Coefficients"
The computer generations of Pascal's triangle model are actually a quilt pattern too. So it all ties together.
Eat healthy, and craft often. And work out the fractal nesting at your leisure.

sick and tired

Literally, sick, and tired. It is the most pitiful fate that could come to a craft-a-holic! I am too sick to do anything! I crawled into bed and woke up 3 hours later! It's the whole cold thing that has gone around. I thought I could avoid it. The weather is having a protest as well. The gnome is guarding the pots on the deck. Maybe we should knit him a little sweater. Another day.

beautiful buttons

I love buttons. I have a collection of them.
I was looking around today, at other people's christmas craft, and look what I found!

These wreaths are fantastic.

A little ornament

Here is a little knit snow man. Hanging on a friend's tree!
This is such an easy little project. But like all projects, it becomes exponentially more difficult to do under time constraints! "pressure crafting" at it's finest.
Are any of you crafting on a deadline?

Welcome

And so begins the posting in the Craft Room!
